It is no surprise that our school district is facing unprecedented times. State budgets have been cut and our schools are being asked to do more with less. Teachers are making great sacrifices to educate our children, but there is only so much they can do with the current resources funded by the state. Our district needs investors. People like you who understand that the students of today are our greatest assets .

The fact of the matter is that California's educational budget woes are rooted in problems that developed decades ago. It is shameful to say, that California ranks 47th in the United States for money spent per pupil. Roughly $5,000 is what is allocated per pupil in the state of California. To put this in perspective, the state of Wyoming spends $9,000 per pupil, and the state of Louisiana spends $6,500. As parents we must ask ourselves, 'How can our children be properly educated for $5,000 per year?'

Needless to say, this is a tall order. Quality public education is not free, and as a community we need to continue investing in Claremont Unified School District. Are there options? Sure there are. There are plenty of good private schools in the area at about $10,00o per year, which could certainly provide piece of mind. Is this a realistic option for most Claremont residents? more ->
