Amount gifted $20,000;
At Sumner, $9,000 went to pay Ms. Donna Marie Minano for music instruction, and the purchase of music and various art supplies. Ms. Minano works with all 1-6 grade students. $680 went to pay for California Streaming which is a service through the LA County of Ed. that allows unlimited access to educational video on-line. It is one of many great uses of the technology we have. We also spent $7,079 on 12 document cameras and accessories so now every room in the school has one to go with the LCD projectors. Teachers are using this technology daily as a more versatile alternative to the old overhead projectors. This technology not only has changed for the better the way teachers teach, it is also highly engaging for the students. Finally, we used $3,605 of the CEF donation to renew our Accelerated Reader contract. This program is a favorite among students and parents. It motivates children to read while focusing on comprehension. Parents can easily follow their child's progress and know what reading level they are on. Funding for both Accelerated Reader and California Streaming is no longer available from the District and we would not have these programs at all without the additional gift from CEF.
